Eco-tourism/Conservation

New Eco-Tourism Lodges in Mozambique.  Northern Mozambique's largest eco-tourism project is nearing completion.  Maluane is a large conservation area and will comprise 5 lodges built on three islands and the main land.  Vamizi Island Lodge, which is already open has 12 luxury beach villas; the nine-room Rongui Island lodge on Rongui Island is due for completion in July 2006, as well as the 12-room lodge on Macaloe Island which will be completed in late 2006.  In 2006, work will begin on Paqueve Lodge, a 12-room safari beach lodge, and the 24-bed Lake Macungue luxury lakeshore safari lodge.

Activities will center on adventure and eco-tourism and include wildlife viewing, game drives and water-based activities such as fishing and scuba diving.  As the development has a strong conservation and community focus, all lodge activities will in some way benefit the area and the communities who live there.

Maluane is very remote and access is by air with regular flights between Johannesburg and Pemba and Dar Es Salaam and Pemba.
