A new family room has been
added at Ongava Lodge.
A new family room has been
built at Ongava Lodge.
Special care was taken to use
local materials (Ongava Rock
and mopane, Caprivi thatch)
Additional environmental
principles were taken into
account with the use of solar
powered geysers and an
advanced air conditioning unit
that automatically reduces
power when no movement is
detected in the room for a 20
minute period (when guest are
asleep or outside).
Ongava Wildlife Vaccination
Program.
A rhino vaccination program
against anthrax was recently
completed at Ongava; anthrax
is a disease that is endemic
in neighboring Etosha National
Park. A total of 44
rhinos (27 white, 16 black)
were vaccinated and a new
month-old black rhino calf was
see for the first time.
Antibodies in the rhino will
be checked again in September
to assess the effectiveness of
the vaccination program.
Kulala Desert Lodge vegetable
garden.
Built by OZQUEST and which is
slowly proving its worth:
Treated water from an above
ground sewerage system is fed
into the garden as a means of
watering it in the extremely
dry environment in the Namib
Desert. Surplus produce not
utilized by the camps
generates revenue which is
donated to Children in the
Wilderness (Namibia). As this
proves successful OZQUEST are
considering building others
elsewhere in Namibia and using
it as an example of the
sustainable use of water in
the arid regions of Namibia.
