Cousine Island gets endangered
White-eye.
The Government of the
Seychelles has finally given
the green light for the
transfer of the endangered
Seychelles White-eye, s small
perching land bird to Cousine
Island. This is
incredible news as it
represents the first time that
a privately owned island has,
using its own expertise
managed to successfully lobby
Government to initiate
conservation action. The
transfer of approximately 30
birds is planned form June
2007. Once this is
completed Cousine Island will
be home to more species of
rare and endangered endemic
land birds that any other
Island in the whole of the
Seychelles.
