Coffee for
Conservation, a reason to feel
good about drinking Starbucks
every morning.
Starbucks Coffee
Company, the leading retailer,
roaster and brand of specialty
coffee worldwide, has joined
forces with AWF to encourage
sustainable coffee farming
practices in East Africa. East
Africa’s coffee farmers have the
capacity to produce large
volumes of high quality coffee,
but are constrained by a
multitude of factors.
Inadequate credit, poor
management of coffee
cooperatives, erratic pricing,
poor marketing practices, and
poor land tenure are among the
key challenges faced by
farmers. Through financial
assistance, training and
capacity building, AWF and
Starbucks will work with coffee
co-operatives to promote a
sustainable, ecological and
economic model for coffee
predication. This partnership
will combine Starbucks expertise
in coffee quality and agronomy
with AWF’s detailed knowledge of
Africa’s people and natural
resources – helping Africa’s
wildlife, wild lands and people
to survive.
