Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1 Depart the USA from your choice of gateway. FLY South African Airways to Johannesburg.
Day 2 Johannesburg: Airport Sun Intercontinental
Arrive into Johannesburg, after clearing customs make your own way to the hotel. Located 50 meters from the arrival and departure at Johannesburg International Airport. The hotel has 109 luxury guest rooms, 26 executive rooms, 2 executive suites, and 1 room for the disabled, 69 non-smoking rooms & 5 inter-leading rooms. Each room has air-conditioning, interactive TV System offering airline flight information, and satellite TV & pay movie channel. Each room also has direct dial telephone, voice mail, wake up call, modem connection, cell phone re-charger, express checkout, coffee & tea maker, hairdryer, minibar, attached bathroom with a separate shower and a separate closet. The hotel has a first class restaurant with an informal atmosphere, offering modern cuisine from breakfast through to late night a la carte dinning. The cocktail bar is an ideal meeting place for the international traveler. In-room dining with an optional “flight-friendly” menu is available. The hotel also has a health and fitness center, massage (by appointment), and indoor pool. Golf, tennis and IMAX Theater are all nearby.
Day 3 Victoria Falls: Victoria Falls Hotel (B)
After breakfast, make your way to the International Terminal. FLY to Victoria Falls, arrive into Victoria Falls, where you will be met by an AfricaTours representative and escorted to the hotel. The internationally acclaimed Victoria Falls Hotel, set in acres of private gardens, was established in 1904 and for over ninety years, visiting members of Royal families, Heads of State, celebrates, authors, journalists and poets, have preferred to stay at the Victoria Falls Hotel, where they are assured of total privacy, comfort and care. The suites and rooms are well appointed, cool and comfortable; each room is air-conditioned, and has every modern amenity. The beautifully appointed Edwardian swimming pool, is surrounded by lush gardens and exotic trees, and gives total privacy. Two all-weather tennis courts are in the grounds and golf and other sporting activities are only a short ride away.
Days 4 & 5 Northern Chobe National Park: Mobile Luxury Tented Camp (BLD)
The “Botswana a la Hemingway” is a fully serviced camping safari with walk-in-tents, camp beds, portable abolition facilities, a full camp staff compliment to perform all camping chores, first class meals are prepared by the cook and silver service in the gracious style of bygone days. After breakfast you visit the spectacular falls before proceeding overland by land cruiser to the Northern part of Chobe National Park where you will be welcomed by the safari camp staff. This area provides you with superb game viewing drives, whilst birding too is excellent. You will also have the opportunity to enjoy a riverboat cruise on the Chobe River. You will spend two nights at the pre-erected camp in the Northern Chobe area with a full complement of staff to cater for you.
Days 6 & 7 Savute/Chobe National Park: Savute Elephant Camp (BLD)
After breakfast you proceed to Savute Elephant Camp. Savute is world-renowned for its large concentrations of game and a strong and stable population of predators. This area of Chobe National Park known as Savute is famous for its large numbers of lions and elephants. You will spend 2 day at Savute Elephant Camp. Amongst the shade of the ancient Acacias, overlooking the Savute Channel, you will find Savute Elephant Camp. Savute is a place of many secrets and was also once the home of the legendary Bushman people whose paintings are still visible after many hundreds of years. It is an area of rocky hills rising out of an ancient lakebed, varying from heavy sandveld and mopani forest to open marshland and acacia Savannah. This variety provides habitat to all the different species of animals and birds. Savute is known for its big game and with years of experience it enables us to give you the best photographic opportunities. This is the area to see and show your friends a real piece of old Africa. When the rains come in December, this arid region does a complete turnabout and the once dry plains sustain for a shorter periods herds of migrating zebra in their thousands, followed by the opportunist predators such as lions and hyenas. Savute Elephant Camp consists of 12 twin bedded luxury tents with en-suite shower facilities. Laundry service is available; there is a fully stocked bar, hot running water, waterborne sanitation, electricity and radio communication. Activities include game viewing in safari vehicles and birdwatching.
Days 8 & 9 Moremi Wildlife Reserve: Mobile Luxury tented Camp (BLD)
Today you head south-east to the north gate (Khwai) region of the Moremi Game Reserve, reputed to be Africa’s most beautiful reserve. Here, the mobile camp will have been pre-erected by the camp staff. You will enjoy two days of game viewing in this area and spend the nights at the fully serviced camp.
Day 10 & 11 Moremi: Nxabega Okavango Safari Camp (BLD)
After breakfast you proceed to the Xakanaxa Lagoon on the eastern extremity of the Okavango Delta where you arrive at Nxabega Okavango Safari Camp in time for lunch. You will spend 2 day at Nxabega Okavango Safari Camp. The Okavango River, life-blood to the arid Kalahari plains, courses its way from the Angolan highlands to Botswana where it fans into an intricate mosaic of islands, secret channels, floodplains and papyrus fringed lagoons, creating one of nature’s miracles - the Okavango Delta. This ancient sanctuary is renowned for its unrivalled scenic beauty and great bio-diversity and nowhere more so than at Nxabega. This 7000-hectare private concession uniquely encompasses all the vegetation types of the Okavango - Mopani, Riverine, Mixed, Palm and Acacia Woodland, Terminalia Sandveld, Perennial Swamp and seasonally flooded grassland. Here, on the cusp of the permanent Okavango, where Desert meets Delta, you will find the exclusive Nxabega Okavango Safari Camp. Nestling under dense stands of African Ebony and Strangler Fig trees, and overlooking a seasonal floodplain, Nxabega Okavango Safari Camp offers a unique combination of unashamed luxury and Botswana most complete safari experience. Beautifully handcrafted from local timber on raised teak platforms and affording magnificent views over the surrounding floodplains of the Okavango, the main building comprises the dinning room, lounge, bar and reference library and opens out onto the expansive sundecks and plunge pool. Nxabega accommodates a maximum of 18 guests in exquisitely furnished East African style safari tents with en-suite bathrooms. Each tent is individually sited on a raised teak platform with private sundeck.
Day 12, 13 Central Kalahari Game Reserve: Mobile Luxury Tented Camp (BLD)
After breakfast you will fly by light aircraft to Deception Valley in the Central Kalahari Game Reserve. Here you will meet up again with your safari guide, vehicle, and camp staff who will already have set up camp in the valley. The days are spent exploring the Central Kalahari on extensive game drives with two evenings spent at our pre-erected camp.
Day 14 Central Kalahari Game Reserve: Deception Valley Lodge (BLD)
Walk with a San tracker; enjoy a night game drive, just some of the things offered at Deception Valley Lodge. . Discover an oasis in the Kalahari of Botswana called Deception Valley Lodge. Discover the best African/Kalahari experience, with Bushman at hand sharing their knowledge, while you relax in total luxury at this unique safari lodge. Bushman remains the highlight at this luxury safari lodge. The Bushman is believed to have inhabited Botswana for at least 30,000 years. Get to know the Bushman's ways of life, survival and hunting skills. Interact with the Bushmen of the Kalahari on one of the Cultural walks with Bushmen at Deception Valley Lodge. The main complex boasts a dining room, lounge and bar area decorated in warm Kalahari colors making use of Bushmen and other African artifacts. From the deck you can view activities at the nearby water hole. A curio shop and small library forms part of the complex. An inviting swimming pool situated close to the main complex, to enhance the enjoyment, as well as a boma for night time meals, whilst gazing across a clear night sky with its abundance of stars and listen to the enthralling night calls of the wild completes the main area. Each room stands separately, on stilts connected with the main lodge by wooden walkways. Each room consists of luxury twin bedded room with en-suite Victorian style bathroom, an outside shower and a private spacious lounge. For your convenience, a hairdryer, shaving plugs and bathrobe are standard. All rooms are fitted with ceiling fans and mosquito nets. A private mini-bar will ensure your comfort during an afternoon siesta. After a nightcap, turn in for a peaceful sleep nestled among the comfortable and safe surroundings of the lodge.
Day 15 Departure (B)
After a morning of game viewing, fly to Maun for your departure flight to Johannesburg and connecting South African Airways Flight to the USA.
Day 16 Arrive into the USA
