Day-by-day itinerary

Day 1 Makgadikgadi Game Reserve: Jack’s Camp (LD)
This trip begins at Maun airport in Botswana, where an AfricaTours representative will meet you. You will board a light aircraft that will fly you into the Makgadikgadi National Park. Enjoy an afternoon of activities. Jack’s Camp, the only desert camp in the Kalahari faces the huge horizons of the Makgadikgadi National Park evoking the original East African Safari. A haven of five-star luxuries exists within the harsh, but mesmerizing environment of the Kalahari Desert. Large classically proportioned tents are positioned for maximum privacy and perfect views amongst glades of palms and under shady acacias. Each features an en-suite open-air bathroom with bucket showers suspended in the palms, and flush toilets. Traditionally styled original ‘40s equipment, Persian carpets, bone handled silver, canvas baths, damask tablecloths and chambray sheets ensure an extraordinarily comfortable stay. Food is of a high standard, fresh and innovative with all baking done on the coals daily.

Day 2 Makgadikgadi Game Reserve: Jack’s Camp (BLD)
The Makgadikgadi, a relic of Africa’s greatest superlake, where early hominids once roamed amongst herds of now extinct giant zebra and hippopotamus, dried up only 10,000 years ago due to the continual shifting of the earth’s crust. Here you will discover signs of the ancient man and the San people, at certain times of the year you will great migrations of wildlife or flocks of flamingoes. Enjoy a full day of activities. Qualified Zoologists/Biologists emphasize the fascinating adaptations of unique desert wildlife to the area on game walks and game drives. Venture into the impenetrable salt pans on four-wheel-drive quad bikes or horseback to explore remote archaeological sites. In the wet season, the pan fills with water forming one of the most important wetland sites in Africa, attracting huge flocks of flamingo and the annual zebra and wildebeest migration.
