Visit the tribes on the Samburu reserve, see the famous flamingoes of Lake Nakuru, and revel in the majesty of the Masai Mara, Kenya’s most famous National Park.
Day-by-day itinerary
Sun Day 1 Depart on British Airways from your gateway city.
Mon Day 2 Nairobi: The Mayfair Court Holiday Inn
Arrive into London in the morning and connect with your British Airways flight to Nairobi. Upon arrival in Nairobi, you will be met by an AfricaTours representative and escorted to your hotel. The evening will be free to sample some of the fine restaurants Nairobi has to offer. The Mayfair Court Hotel is a seven-minute drive from the center of Nairobi, in a leafy suburb of Parklands. Close to the Westlands Shopping Center, it hosts the largest variety of fine shopping and dining. The hotel retains the ambiance and charm of the original 1930’s construction and it has recently been restored to excellent standards. The hotel has two restaurants, two outdoor swimming pools, and health club, beauty salon, boutique and a complimentary shuttle bus service between the hotel and the city center.
Tue Day 3 Samburu National Reserve: Samburu Lodge (BLD)
After breakfast, you will be driven to Samburu Game Reserve — a long drive but with a wonderful reward at the end, a thrilling afternoon game drive. Upon arrival at this lodge a Samburu tribesman will greet you. Its beautiful setting is right on the riverbank, with the popular crocodile bar almost overhanging the water. The rooms are located up and down the river in various size cottages and bandas, with a mixture of decors and styles. All rooms feature en-suite bathrooms. The swimming pool is a welcome relief in the heat of the day. At night Samburu dancers perform, there are daily bird-walks, wildlife videos shows and on some days they have outdoor barbecues.
Wed Day 4 Samburu National Reserve: Samburu Lodge (BLD)
Enjoy a full day of game drives (one in the morning and one in the afternoon). In this area, which is quite different geographically, you can spot wildlife such as the long-necked gerenuk, grevy's zebra and reticulated giraffe.
Thu Day 5 Aberdares National Park: Treetops (BLD)
After breakfast, you will be driven north towards Mt. Kenya, up the forested slopes of the Aberdare Range to the "tree hotel" which overlooks a flood-lit water hole, frequented by wildlife all night long. Treetop is situated in the Aberdares National Park and is the most famous hotel of this type in the world. It was here that Queen Elizabeth II learnt of the death of her father and after ascending into the hotel as a Princess in the evening, she descended the next morning as a Queen. The waterholes and saltlicks attract the game from the surrounding forests and elephant, rhino, buffalo and warthog are frequent visitors to the pools. In order to preserve the peace and quiet of the area, guests meet at the beautiful Outspan Hotel in Nyeri for lunch and are then escorted in a special bus to the car park 200 meters from Treetops itself. Accommodation is in double rooms, all equipped with night alarms and guests can request calls for special sightings. Every room overlooks a waterhole and there are communal toilets and showers.
Fri Day 6 Lake Nakuru: Lake Nakuru Lodge (BLD)
After breakfast, you will be driven to Lake Nakuru. A taste of paradise, Lake Nakuru Lodge is situated in a wonderland which lies in the heart of one of Kenya’s most densely populated National Parks, only two hours leisurely drive from Nairobi, through some of the most exciting scenery in this region. Situated in the southeast niche of the park is Lake Nakuru Lodge, an oasis of comfort and excellent service, with commanding views of the flamingo for which Lake Nakuru is famous. It is another world for the visitor, where one can easily forget the hustle and bustle of the city. The lodge blends in with its surroundings and the animals often graze peacefully close to the lodge. There are accommodations for 120 people, either in family rooms or cottages with en suite bathrooms.
Sat Day 7 Masai Mara National Reserve: Keekorok Lodge (BLD)
After breakfast, you will be driven to the Masai Mara National Reserve at the northern end of the Serengeti. In the afternoon, enjoy a game drive, where you may see all of the "Big Five" (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino), as well as plains game such as giraffe, antelope and zebra. Keekorok, the Masai Mara’s first lodge, has maintained its charm and hospitality and remains the market leader. Located at the Southern end of the Masai Mara right in the path of the annual migration of wildebeest and zebra, there’s always plenty of activity around the waterhole but during the migration, the lodge is enveloped by the swarming mass of animals. Accommodations at Keekorok are in bungalows, single story blocks and in comfortable shaded chalets each with en-suite bathrooms. The liberal use of cedar wood, pink and grey Sand River stone and other indigenous building materials offset the green laws and colorful bougainvillea. After a day in the fresh air, the excitement of game viewing and a refreshing dip in the swimming pool, the rituals of sundowners by a roaring fire in the lounge, heralds an evening full of Masai dancing, cultural or wildlife lectures and videos and yet another of those remarkable Keekorok dinners.
Sun Day 8 Masai Mara National Reserve: Keekorok Lodge (BLD)
Another full day to experience the Mara majesty! Enjoy two game drives in Kenya's premier reserve, famed for its abundance of all types of wildlife, its black-manned lions, and its bi-annual migration of millions of wildebeest and zebra.
Mon Day 9 Departure (B)
After breakfast, you will be driven to Nairobi. The rest of the day will be free to make your own arrangements, perhaps relaxing in your dayroom at the hotel or shopping for souvenirs to take home. In the evening you will be transferred to the airport for your British Airways flight.
Tue Day 10 Arrive into London in the morning and connect with your flight to the USA.
