Four degrees south of the equator, Frégate is an island of outstanding natural beauty, with only sixteen villas, seven beaches, two fresh water pools and a rock spa, it is the ultimate private Island.
Day 1 Frégate Private Island: Frégate Island Resort (LD)
Arrive into Mahé, and connect with your helicopter flight to Frégate Island. Arrive at the island, where you will be met by a lodge representative and driven to your villa spread between the palm trees. This is the most isolated of the granite islands and still has the atmosphere of bygone days. The island, dominated by two hills, is just over a mile long and less than a mile wide and lies 35 miles from Mahé. Green with takamakas, casuarinas, palms, breadfruit trees and the striking ficus bengalensis or banyans, sugar cane, vanilla, tobacco, sweet potatoes, maize, coffee, cinnamon, papayas, bananas and vegetables are all cultivated on Frégate. The waters of the coral reef circling the island are full of shells, especially shiny olives and cones. Fascinating too are the animal species that live there, ranging from huge scolopendras to spiders whose spectacular webs sparkle in the braches of trees. Among the birds you find the rare magpie robin with its sweet song, fairy terns, the Seychelles humming bird and the beautiful three colored pigeon. Each Villa has satellite TV and VCR, stereo with CD player, video, book and music library, telephone, fax and computer modem, air-conditioning and fans. Fragrant freshly cut flowers are arranged in every Villa every day with a nightly turndown service and personal laundry. Room service is available 24-hrs a day. International newspapers via fax are available daily. There is also a working plantation, garden and nursery. The Rock Spa is a haven of serenity, perched on a cliff-top plateau overlooking the sea. The finest holistic treatments from all over the world use ancient techniques from India, Australia and Polynesia with botanical treatments prepared from local ingredients.
