Day-by-day itinerary

Day 1 Depart USA on South African Airways from your choice of gateways.

Day 1 Cape Town: Cape Grace Hotel
Arrive into Cape Town, where you will be met by an AfricaTours representative and escorted to your hotel. A unique setting on its own promontory surrounded by water on three sides means that all rooms open onto views of Table Mountain, the yacht marina or a working harbor. Unpretentious luxury and service as an art and honor to dispense. . . Guests are welcomed into a world of quiet and calm comfort, which invites you to be yourself. Cape Grace offers a wide choice of accommodation. All guest rooms and suites are air-conditioned, have separate dressing rooms, walk in showers, separate toilets, double vanities, cable TV, direct dial telephone and generous lounge areas. One.waterfront Restaurant at the Cape Grace has spectacular views of Table Mountain, the restaurant features creative, imaginative and modern food with a distinct South African influence, reflecting the high quality and cutting edge style at Cape Grace. . Enjoy a cocktail or 35 year old single malt scotch at Cape Grace’s Bascule Bar. Situated on the water's edge, the elegantly decorated Bascule Bar overlooks a bustling yacht marina. Bascule's smooth, sleek and minimalist use of warm burgundies, rich blues and lighting charms both the conservative and chic sets. The unique bar boasts whiskies from Scotland to the USA to Japan. With a whisky collection of over 360 malts, this sophisticated bar host’s intimate whisky tastings weekly, for up to 6 people. Bascule Bar offers al fresco dining for lunch and dinner. The hotel has a 15-meter swimming pool, complimentary access to the nearby health club, business and secretarial services, gift shop, and 24-hour room service, underground parking and conference center.

Day 2 Cape Town: The Cape Grace Hotel (BL)
Enjoy a full day private tour of the beautiful Cape Peninsular, as this is a private tour, flexibility is the key. Highlights of the tour will include time in Hout Bay, once a fishing community and now a thriving residential area, a drive over dramatic Chapman’s Peak (PROVIDED THAT IT IS OPEN) with a 200 meter drop on one side and a 200 meter rise on the other. Enjoy a visit to Fishoek beach the Jackass penguin colony at Boulders Beach just outside of Simonstown, Cape Point and the Cape of Good Hope, and the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. Enjoy lunch at Black Marlin.  A camellia-decked garden leads into a beautiful old house with lovely views of False Bay for lazy days or evenings gorging on seafood.  The Black Marlin has an impressive wine list with sparkling wine by the glass and auction wines as features, and a menu boasting coconut prawn tempura, Knysna oysters, mussels in Madeira wine sauce, kingklip on the spit, seafood platters, crayfish thermidor, LM prawns and lubbers’ fare like ostrich steaks and carpetbagger fillet.  There are pasta dishes too. Lunch has been pre-paid, in some instances there may be a surcharge for certain dishes – drinks are not included. You will be arriving between 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm to allow for some flexibility.

Day 3 Cape Town: The Cape Grace Hotel (BL)
Enjoy a full day private tour of the famous Cape Winelands, as this is a private tour, flexibility is the key. Travel via the National Highway to Paarl. Continue to a family-run wine farm for wine tasting and visit of its vineyards. To Boschendal for wine tasting, and Stellenbosch. Tour of the village. Experience the unforgiving crags that rise up in a haze of splendor around these renowned Winelands with their range of award winning wines. Or, simply marvel at the majesty of it all. A rare find. Return to Cape Town in the late afternoon. Enjoy lunch at La Petite Ferme. This popular, family-run farmhouse restaurant, with miniscule working wine cellar, is always packed though enclosing the veranda has allowed for more tables in inclement weather and brings guests closer to the wrap-around view. Chef Lizette Crabtree is introducing new dishes like black mussels, fragrant with lemon grass and ginger; and meltingly tender individual servings of aubergine-coated slow-roasted lamb in garlic yoghurt sauce. Bestsellers are still home-smoked, boned trout with horseradish sauce, vegetarian quiches, pickled fish, aromatic bobotie and perennially popular 'plum crazy' dessert topped with meringue. The Wine list: Order the farms own wine it's made with the food in mind. Lunch has been pre-paid, in some instances there may be a surcharge for certain dishes – drinks are not included. You will be arriving between 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm to allow for some flexibility.

Day 4 Cape Town: The Cape Grace Hotel (B)
You will have a full day at leisure to explore “The Mother City”, you may wish to visit the Irma Stern and SA Museum, take the ferry and tour to Robben Island, visit the Cape Townships, walk around the Cape Malay Quarter, and visit the many art galleries and more!!

Day 5 Knysna: Pezula Resort Hotel & Spa (B)
After breakfast, you will be met at the hotel and driven to the airport for your flight to George. Arrive into George, where you will be met by an AfricaTours representative and driven to Pezula Resort Hotel & Spa in Knysna. Soaring above the glittering Knysna lagoon and offering breathtaking mountain and ocean views, Pezula enjoys a setting that has to be seen to be believed. You may choose to take advantage of Pezula's extensive sport and recreation facilities, ranging from stunning nature walks to yachting, diving and much more. A health spa with indoor heated pool and fully equipped gymnasium. Championship golf course with resident US PGA golf director. On-complex sporting and activities: tennis, forest hiking, horse trails, birdwatching, cycling, pony traps, canoeing, beach club entertainment. Day 6 Knysna: Pezula Resort Hotel & Spa (B)
We highly recommend that you spend the day exploring the scenic Garden Route OR enjoy all the activities available at Pezula. The Garden Route is a region of infinite diversity and contrast from golden beaches, rocky shorelines, mysterious forests, breathtaking mountains and vast open plains, all united by an overriding theme of natural beauty. The secret and undiscovered garden of South Africa’s Cape is blessed with a mild climate that provides year-round opportunities for the visitor to enjoy the unique attractions of the region and to participate in a variety of leisure activities from watersports and hiking to whale-spotting and exploring historical sites. Some of the major areas on the Garden Route are Tsitsikamma Forest, Plettenberg Bay, Knysna, Wilderness, George and Outshoorn.

Day 7 Private Game Reserve: Royal Malewane (BLD)
After an early breakfast, you will be driven to the George airport for your flight to Johannesburg and connecting flight to Royal Malewane. Arrive into the Royal Malewane airstrip, where you will be met by a camp representative and driven to the lodge. Enjoy an afternoon game drive. Royal Malewane is an advance on the senses. On the Western fringe of Kruger National Park, in the heart of Southern Africa’s “Big-Five” territory, Royal Malewane balances an exquisite synthesis of nature’s wild pulse with the quiet and sophisticated sublimity of colonial comfort, elegance and style. Come find yourself in Africa, where lion’s drink and impala dance under the drift of clouds that cruise like the seamless dreaming of hills. Each of the six private suites rests in harmony with its surroundings. Rich deckwood, thatched gazebo shade and spillway pool water find easy residence with Acacia-thorn and Lanternbush. Day 8 Private Game Reserve: Royal Malewane (BLD)
Enjoy a morning and afternoon game drive. A typical day consists of an early wake up call at approximately 5:30 am where you will be served tea, coffee and cookies in the Lodge before your start off on your early morning game drive. You will return to the lodge at approximately 10:00 am where you will enjoy a full breakfast. The rest of the morning is yours to enjoy catching up on your sleep, swimming in the pool, browsing in the curio shop or participating in a game walk. Lunch is served at around 1:00 pm. At 3:30 pm enjoy tea and coffee before setting out on your afternoon/evening game drive. You will return to the lodge at around 7:30 pm in time to get ready for dinner either in the lodge or the boma (a boma is a reed enclosed outdoor eating area. You will eat under a starry African night with the calls of the wild in the distance – a truly memorable event).

Day 11 Johannesburg: Airport Sun Intercontinental (B)
After a morning game drive and some leisure time you will be driven to the airstrip for your flight to Johannesburg.  Arrive into Johannesburg, where you will be met by an AfricaTours representative and escorted to the hotel. Located 50 meters from the arrival and departure at Johannesburg International Airport. The hotel has 109 luxury guest rooms, 26 executive rooms, 2 executive suites, and 1 room for the disabled, 69 non-smoking rooms & 5 inter-leading rooms. Each room has air-conditioning, interactive TV System offering airline flight information, and satellite TV & pay movie channel. Each room also has direct dial telephone, voice mail, wake up call, modem connection, cell phone re-charger, express checkout, coffee & tea maker, hairdryer, minibar, attached bathroom with a separate shower and a separate closet. The hotel has a first class restaurant with an informal atmosphere, offering modern cuisine from breakfast through to late night a la carte dinning. The cocktail bar is an ideal meeting place for the international traveler. In-room dining with an optional “flight-friendly” menu is available. Day 11 Livingstone: Royal Livingstone (B)
After a morning game drive and some leisure time you will be driven to the Jackelberry airstrip for your transfer by Federal Air shuttle to KMIA for schedules departing to Livingstone Arrive into Livingstone, where you will be met by an AfricaTours representative and escorted to the hotel. This evening enjoy a scheduled sundowner cruise. The Royal Livingstone is a 5 Star resort located within the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park on the Zambian side of Victoria Falls. Every detail has been lovingly crafted to create the impression of being in another place in time, a time of romance and adventure. The bedrooms are two-story clusters inspired by the grand estate houses of a bygone era. Each cluster comprises 10 en-suite air-conditioned rooms with private balconies and terraces that offer spectacular views of the great river and beyond. The less adventurous might like to choose from sundowner cruises, game drives, bird watching and cycling safaris.

Day 12 Livingstone: Royal Livingstone (BL)
This morning you will be met by your guide for a private tour “Mists of time” which includes a private tour of the Falls, a tour of Livingstone town and its history and the Ebenezer Children’s Home & Mukuni Village. Visit to Ebenezer Children’s Home and School. HIV and Aids pose the single largest threat to development in Sub Saharan Africa. It is calculated that 30% of Adult people living in this region are currently infected and the biggest challenge is copping with the number of orphans that are left behind. Ebenezer Child Care is an inspirational place of hope where a handful of dedicated people are working heroically to make a difference. You will drive to the orphanage where we will be met by Mrs. Chapatti one of the founder of Ebenezer Trust. She will take us on a tour of the establishment and give us an overview of the work of the Trust. We will then go down to the school, which is at a different location, where we will meet the children and their teachers and have a tour of the school.

Day 13 Departure (B)
After a morning at leisure, transfer to the airport for your flight to Johannesburg and connecting South African Airways Flight to JFK.
