Day-by-day itinerary

Day 1 Hermanus/Gansbai: Grootbos (LD)
Arrive into Cape Town, where you will be met by an AfricaTours representative and driven to Hermanus (approximately 1 ½ hours). Enjoy the afternoon the enjoy the lodge. Welcome to Grootbos – the Lodge at the Sea. 160 kms from Cape Town on the way to the Garden Route lies the Grootbos Nature Reserve, with over 1000 hectares of nature as we were intended to experience it. Nestling in the fynbos clad hills above Walker Bay with breathtaking views of the dunes, sea and distant Cape of Good Hope. Here nature will enchant you at every turn. Experience some of the world’s richest flora, the mystical Milkwood forest, the fascinating fauna and marine life that enthralls. An overwhelming feeling of peace and tranquility will imbue you will a renewed zest for life. Enjoy the many trails that thread themselves through the fynbos and costal forest, which provide shelter to a variety of smaller animals such as bushbuck, porcupine, grey duiker and lynx. Meet at the bar for cocktails and enjoy the picturesque sunsets across Walker Bay to Cape Point. Our restaurant specializes in seafood such as crayfish and line fish, complemented by homegrown produce. Nestling in the milkwood forest, our cottages have been built from locally hewn stone and timber. Each bedroom has an en-suite bathroom. Open fireplaces in the lounge invite cozy romantic evenings while the spacious wooded sun decks convey a classical “Out of Africa” feeling.

Day 2 Hermanus/Gansbai: Grootbos (BLD)
Enjoy a full day of activities at Grootbos. Grootbos harbors over 1000 species of extraordinary Cape Flora. Specialist guides will convey to you the wonders of our unique flora and fauna along walking trails, on horseback or mountain bike, or in one of our 4 x 4 vehicles. From July until December the Southern Right Whale migrates from Antarctica into Walker Bay. Here the breeding cycle starts and culminates in the birth of their young. Walker Bay provides one of the most spectacular vantage points for whale watching in the world; in fact you will never get closer without actually touching one. A short drive from Grootbos lays 30 kms of pristine coastline. There you can enjoy vast stretches of white sands, where you can collect seashells, have a swim in crystal clear waters or simply relax. The coastline is a treasure trove of bird and sea life. The Cape Fur Seal inhabits Dyer’s Island just 20 minutes away by boat. The island is also a favorite hunting ground of the great white shark. Daily trips scheduled on request.

Day 3 Hermanus/Gansbai: Grootbos (BLD)
Enjoy a full day of activities at Grootbos.

Day 4 Departure (B)
After breakfast and a morning at leisure, you will be met at the lodge and driven to Cape Town airport.
