Day-by-day itinerary

Day 1 Depart on KLM from your gateway city.

Day 2 Arusha: Arusha Coffee Lodge
Arrive into Amsterdam and connect with your flight to Kilimanjaro. Upon arrival into Kilimanjaro, you will be met by an AfricaTours representative and escorted to your hotel. Arusha derives its name from the Warusha people, a tribe of Masai who settled around the base of Mount Meru in order to cultivate the land. Guest’s en-route to the adventurous Tanzanian Northern Circuit can look forward to a luxurious send off at Arusha Coffee Lodge. Inspired by the grace and romance of a fine ‘old-time’ coffee plantation, guests can anticipate accommodation of the highest standard with 21 private chalets featuring multi-level areas, huge balconies and beautiful fireplaces. Each chalet has its own bedroom, bathroom and living room. There is a coffee grinder and percolator in the spirit of a true coffee estate experience.

Day 3 Tarangire National Park: Treetops Lodge (BLD)
After lunch, you will be met at the hotel and driven to Tarangire. Enjoy a game drive en-route to the lodge. Tarangire is one of the largest national parks in Tanzania, measuring some 1,000 square miles. The first thing to capture the eye as you enter Tarangire is the vast numbers of Baobab trees, which dwarf the animals feeding beneath them. Masai giraffe, Grant's and Thompson's gazelle, hartebeest, impala, kudu, reedbuck, gerenuk, klipspringer, fox and the usual collections of baboons, warthog and ostrich abound. During the dry season from June to November, animals concentrate along the Tarangire River, which provides the only permanent water supply in Masai land. Tarangire Treetops features 20 luxury en-suite rooms, built atop tree-attached platforms, overlooking the Tarangire Sand River. This is an innovative and stunningly original property consisting of large tree houses built upon platforms amongst a cluster of Baobab, Mopani and Wild Fig Trees that are superbly blended into the environment the dining area is situated close to the swimming pool and elephant water hole. Each en-suite unit has a private veranda and lounge area, with sweeping views over the private Conservation area. Tarangire Treetops is located within the 57,000 acre Tarangire Conservation Area, this partnership with the villages of Lokisale and Makayuni provides revenue for community development such as the building of schools and dispensaries, grading of roads and erection of water-pumps. In exchange for these benefits, the local communities limit farming and grazing and put a stop all poaching, deforestation and charcoal burning, thus ensuring the habitat protection that will return the area to its natural state.

Day 4 Tarangire National Park: Tarangire Treetops Lodge (BLD)
Enjoy a full day of game viewing with a morning and an afternoon game drive.

Day 5 Ngorongoro Crater:
Ngorongoro Serena Lodge (BLD)
After a morning game drive and breakfast, you will be driven to the Ngorongoro Crater. The Ngorongoro Crater is one of the world's hallowed places - a giant amphitheater ten miles across; "stamped like a hoofprint deep into the green hills of Africa" says one writer. The floor of this ancient volcanic crater encompasses a self-contained ecosystem, which sustains the greatest concentration of wildlife on earth! The Ngorongoro Serena Lodge is constructed of local stone and is molded onto the contours of its site. The Ngorongoro Serena affords to its guests breathtaking views of the 102 square mile Crater beneath and of the wealth of the surroundings animal and bird life. All 75 rooms are equipped with environmentally friendly heat exchange units and the roof-scape has been constructed in such a fashion that it collects significant amounts of fresh water from rainwater thus conserving this precious local commodity.

Day 6 Ngorongoro Crater:
Ngorongoro Serena Lodge (BLD)
Enjoy a magical crater tour. As you descend into the 100 square mile crater, the inert dots viewed from the top come to life and animals appear in small groups, like actors on a sunken stage of staggering and relentless beauty. Soon you are eye to eye with the animals, the beloved little "Tommie" with ever-flagging black tail, buffalo, rhino, lion, zebra, giraffe and elephant — acting out a drama of life and death on an epic scale. There are birds too, in abundance - vultures, hideous pink-necked marabou storks and thousands upon thousands of greater and lesser flamingos wading carefully through the shallow waters of the crater's small soda lake.

Day 7 Ngorongoro Crater: Ngorongoro Serena Lodge (BLD)
Enjoy a crater tour.

Day 8 Serengeti National Park: Serengeti Serena Lodge/Kirawira Tented Camp/Four Seasons Safari Lodge (BLD)
After breakfast, you will be driven to the Serengeti with a stop at the Olduvai Gorge en-route. Enjoy an afternoon game drive en-route to the lodge. The Serengeti National Park, a 12,800 square mile wilderness of semi-arid grasslands and woodlands in Tanzania's northwestern corner is the pulsating heart of East Africa. Its immense grass oceans and riverine forests are home to the largest concentration of large predators and plains game in Africa. The Serengeti's pulse beats to the migration cycle. In the spring, the bright green of the grass gives the Serengeti an air of sparkling freshness. Then, the meadows reverberate with the thunder of millions of hooves — with the snarls of hyenas and hunting dogs in hot pursuit — as vast hordes of wildebeest and zebra begin their great annual migration: the most impressive wildlife pageant on earth. Serengeti Serena: Sitting atop a hill, with endless views over the Serengeti plains, the design and construction of Serengeti Serena has been executed in such a fashion that the lodge merges into the surrounding landscape. The cluster of startlingly elegant huts was inspired by the design of a traditional African village. The huts house Serengeti Serena’s 65 rooms, and all are en-suite with shower and toilet. Enjoy the sunset by the swimming pool and marvel at the panoramic views from the bedrooms and public areas. The lodge is rich in indigenous handicrafts and art such as a woodcarving, bead making and pottery with both practical and decorative purposes. Kirawira Luxury Tented Camp: Serena’s luxury tented camp recalls a turn-of-the century settler’s night stop. It is located on one of the Kirawira range of hills in the Western corridor of the Serengeti overlooking, in the near distance, the famous Grumeti River with its giant crocodiles and, some kilometers beyond, Lake Victoria. The camp is all canvas; its design (with only 25 double tents) and operational concept emphasize the feeling of being at one with nature whilst offering the highest standards of comfort, cuisine and service. Featuring its own naturally created plunge pool, the camp provides its residents with its own safari vehicles and tour guides. Each luxury tent incorporates its own solar heated shower. Bilila Lodge Kempinski:Beautifully nestled in the Serengeti National Park, bringing a new level of luxury to one of Tanzania's UNESCO World Heritage sites. Unforgettable encounters combined with spectacular views of wildlife and magnificent sunsets provide life-long memories.

Day 12 Lake Manyara: Serena Lodge (BLD)  After breakfast, you depart with a picnic lunch, and head towards Manyara (no game drives or stop en-route.  Only emergency stops), arriving at your camp in the late afternoon. Overnight at Lake Manyara Serena Lodge that stands high on the edge of a towering terracotta escarpment with panoramic views over the glittering alkaline waters of Lake Manyara, Lake Manyara Serena Safari Lodge offers a unique blend of tranquillity, wildlife discovery, and ornithological richness.  Cultural choices include tours of the neighbouring villages and dance displays by the local Iraqw and sukuma people.  Grouped around a central ‘vanishing horizon' pool, this highly unusual lodge features a simple timbered reception area, built in traditional African style, which is accessed via a bridge over a small stream. Beyond reception, lies the central dining room, bar and veranda, below which lies the pool. Perched on the very edge of the cliffs, with stunning views over the lake is the pool bar and observation point. Dotted around the grounds, all with views over the lake, are a series of circular two-storey ‘rondavels', which house the rooms.  Designed to reflect the brilliance of Lake Manyara's unique birdlife, the architectural motif melds swooping avian curves with the gentle concentric patterns of traditional Maasai ‘Bomas' , while the vibrantly coloured wall frescoes depict the colourful intricacy of bird migratory patterns.

Day 13 Departure (BL)
After breakfast, you have a morning game drive before returning to your camp for lunch.   After lunch you head towards Arusha Coffee lodge for use of a day room unitll 1800hrs.   You are then picked up and transferred to Kilimanjaro International airport for your departure flight.
