Day 2 Selous Game Reserve: Selous River Lodge/Selous Safari Camp/Beho Beho (BLD)
Enjoy a morning and an afternoon activity. The Selous Game Reserve is one of the largest and least explored wildlife reserves in the world. Located in Eastern Tanzania, much of the Selous is low lying, with altitudes ranging from 110 to 120 meters. Running through its center, flows the vast Rufigi River. Together with its tributaries, the Great Ruaha, Kilombero and Luaga, the Rufigi makes up East Africa’s longest river basin. An unusual combination of steep wooded hills, open Miombo woodland and grassy plains and marshes interlaced with lakes and dry sand rivers, this scenic area boasts an impressive variety of game, birds and wildflowers.

Day 3 Selous Game Reserve: Selous River Lodge/Selous Safari Camp/Beho Beho (BLD)
Enjoy a morning and an afternoon activity.

Day 4 Selous Game Reserve: Selous River Lodge/Selous Safari Camp/Beho Beho (BLD)
Enjoy a morning and an afternoon activity.

Day 5 Departure (B)
After a morning game drive, fly via light aircraft to Dar es Salaam.

Situated on the banks of the Rufiji River in Selous Game Reserve, Sand River offers a unique combination of adventure, comfort and exclusivity. This small lodge, crafted out of local materials, comprises six individually designed cottages with bathrooms en suite. Spaced along the riverbank, each has its own private view of the wide sand banked river with its hippo, crocodile and birdlife. Near the dinning room a large Baobab tree shades the swimming pool in which guests can escape the heat of the day or cool off after a game walk. Sand River offers a wide variety of activities for guests including walking, fly camping, game viewing by boat on both Rufiji and Lake Tagalala or in open four-wheel vehicles. An experienced-armed guide escorts all excursions.

FLY CAMPING additional $140 per person per night – must be pre-booked.
After a light breakfast, you will leave the lodge at 7 a.m. for a three hour walk following the Rufiji River upstream. The hot mid-day hours are spent on a shady bank at the rivers edge where boats would have prepared a picnic lunch. In the afternoon, you continue upstream for an hour and a half by boat into the steep boulder strewn Steigler’s Gorge. This area is considered one of the most spectacular of the Selous and has a good record of leopard sightings. At dusk you will arrive at the rapids below which the safari crew of cooks and waiters will have positioned a lightweight fly camp on a sandbank. The night is spent here either in a mosquito net under the stars, or for those who wish, in a tent. The fly camp consists of dome tents for changing and storage, shower tent, mosquito net (double or single) which is sown into a ground sheet, bed rolls made up with sheets and blankets, large ground sheet and cushions on which the evening is spent and dinner is served, wash stands with basins and mirrors for shaving, cold box with ice and cold drinks. Apart from the guide there are usually another three crew who take care of all the camp chores.

The Selous Safari Camp consists of twelve tents mounted on wooden platforms all facing onto Lake Nzerekera. Each tent is located for maximum privacy. Each tent has an en-suite flush toilet, shower and basin. Tents are solar powered; each has its own verandah and is well ventilated. The camp has a bar, dining room and viewing platform. Activities include game drives in open-topped vehicles, boat trips and walks with reserve game scouts. The camp is located in the Northern Eastern sector of the reserve. The area is the most densely populated game reserve in the reserve. Game viewing from one’s tent is often spectacular.

Beho Beho was the first camp to be sited in The Selous, not on the banks, or the flood plains of the mighty Rufiji River, but in the cooler highlands so as to enjoy the 'cooling breezes' from which its name derives. Beho Beho has created the true 'essence' of a safari refuge, for safari travelers who have 'been there and done that' throughout the big game countries of Africa now there is a camp that takes the 'best' of each safari and combines it into one remarkable experience. A luxurious base camp from which to explore on foot, by boat or by open safari cruiser the splendors of one of the largest game preserves in the world. Beho Beho's experienced guides will plan your safari program, whether you need time to relax and be pampered or need to do a 10kms game walk before breakfast in the bush. Beho Beho's stone built and palm thatched cottages, the open sided lounges and dining areas together with the cocktail bar and 'billiards room' provide a sophisticated setting for post safari relaxation and the swimming pool and deck an ideal place to cool off.
